Tuki is 4 months already! Holding her pacifier, turning over onto her back from her stomach then turning again onto her back and even scrolling the screens on both our laptops and droids.

She has amazing gross motor skills. I bought her a walker shaped like a car last week because she moves objects so well with her hands. Of course she can't reach the floor with her legs yet but, the walker allows her to sit up.

See, at 4wks she was holding her head up really well. The walker strengthens and improves her core, spine and neck stability. In it she's able to turn her head to see around her. She can easily watch me working and not get antsy when I get up to go prepare her bottle.

We are feeding her Beechnut Stage 1 cereals of rice and oatmeal with a spoon now, too. She really likes hers mixed with warmed pear juice over milk.

Sometimes her Daddy lets her spin his turntables and play his keyboards when he's working. She is identifying how her actions causes affects. Her face be so serious while she's at his workstation. Lol.

Before we know it we'll be baby-proofing the house and office!

I started self reflecting last month on the 18th, my oldest daughter's 25th birthday. Since I am in the Diaspora, two days account for my observance of events making dusk on that day, my entry into the fast.

What was confirmation is one daily verse from that week speaking on yokes. I've changed a lot since a year has passed with pregnancy and birth. I still felt that "industry anger" and now its time to let it go.

Industry anger has been good to me though. It made me persistent, gave my drive for success fuel and allowed me to attain accolades no other female rapper in my city has received. So, why is it an issue you ask? Well, its roots are in bitterness. I don't have to explain any further.

This Fast of Tammuz is for walls being breeched, God's forsight being misconscued and temples being destroyed. My walls are being reinforced, His voice is heard clearer and my temple has been reconstructed to fit the additions of new purposes. Oh how fitting and timely this scripture was and still is.

It takes 21 days to shift a habit. I'll take that and shift my spirit. With only 7 days left, I've already experienced the rewards of redirection. Everything that is of me has profited in some form or another. This includes my businesses, family and physical well being.

Surely this is my season to embrace and walk in a higher level of greatness.

In Remembrance of my oldest brother, Wayane Andrew Marshall, Happy B-day, Big Brother...

My brother Alfredo Jarrell, my Grandmother Mrs. Katherine Johnson,

Me, Yolanda Eileen, in her lap and my oldest brother, Wayane Andrew.

Today would be Wayane's 50th birthday. He passed away at age 40 a few weeks before Christmas of December 2001.

He taught me how to clean the kitchen, love all comic book characters and tear apart any electronic device. He was a master at putting computers together, always tinkering with something. I don't remember him ever owning a car but always having the baddest 10-speed bicycle out.

My brother was born with sickle cell. I can't imagine the many times my mother heard doctors say, "He's not going to make it," when he had a crisis related to the disease. My Mother, a strong praying woman, was always faithful and never showed fear. In fact, I don't ever remember knowing how serious Wayane's illnesses were. Mother kept our home at peace through it all. When he was bed ridden once, when I was around 7 years old, that's when he showed me the entire X-Men comic book series. He never called me Yolanda, only by my middle name, Eileen. I would sit on the floor of him and Fredo's room going through those hundreds of comic books for hours. Now I realize that he was probably in immense pain and passed out on pain medications when I'd thought he'd fell asleep while telling me about something. *(I learned later from my daughter, Jasmine, that he shared with her the same love for comics and electronics as he did me.)

I remember a few years later, when I was around 10 years old, having an altercation with some bully at the ball field down the street from our house on 12th street. I had this pitbull mutt my Great-Grandmother, Lilian Houston, had given me named Butch. Being that I was 6 and 10 years younger than my brothers and the only girl, Butch was my playmate and went everywhere I went. That day was crazy. This boy was being mean to me for no reason and Butch tried to bite him. Well, that didn't go good as the boy kicked my dog and spit on me when I tried to kick him back. I ran home telling my big brothers. Wayane went down to that ball park and straight gave that boy the business. My other brother Alfredo came, too with one of his friends. We were all going to fight that boy and his friends, my dog and all. In fear, the boy cut Wayane with a little knife. It wasn't major but word got out in the neighborhood not to mess with that little girl with the dog. Her and her brothers are from New York and she got this crazy dog that fights for her. I'll never forget that. I have no idea how Mother found out as she was working and going to school at the time and the boys were supposed to be watching me. I think Wayane got punished since he was the oldest and Fredo got it, too, cause he was the street smart one and should have known better.

My mother was my Grandmother's first child. Naturally, we were my Grandmother's first grandchildren and we were well taken care of. My mother worked two jobs while we were in Brooklyn where all of us were born. She was a seamstress and a house keeper. Mom was always in good with Puerto Ricans, thus our names, Alfredo & Yolanda. My Grandmother is from Austin while my Grandfather was from Brooklyn. Grandfather was in the Air Force and had been stationed in Japan while my mother decided at 18 not to go overseas and was staying with Grandfather's people in Brooklyn.

My Mother ended up back in Texas due to there being the best doctors available for Wayane, I think. That may not be the total reason but I'm almost sure it played a big part of it. I remember Wayane's last crisis back in 2001 and my visit with him at Seton Northwest here in Austin. I had to wear protective clothing since he was in ICU. I prayed every scripture I knew about healing, walking in wholeness and being filled with peace as he laid in and out of consciousness. At one point, Wayane came to and told me how proud he was of me and how my life had turned around. He told me to stay in church and never let anything distract me from Christ's love. He told me to give my daughter Jasmine all the time I could and how he wished he could have had children of his own.

After leaving his room at ICU, while walking through the hospital's entrance foyer, I felt the spirits of grief, dread, fear and despair like I've never felt them before. They hit me with such force that I could literally recall the exact spot where my steps tread into their existence. I stopped right in my tracks and prayed for those spirits to cease oppressing people. I left when I felt the atmosphere in that area lighten up. When I got to my car, I knew that would be the last time I would speak to my loving, big brother.

I spoke to my Auntie Dianne about my prayers and that awful oppressive foyer and she taught me a valuable lesson about healing. She reminded me that all of Wayane's life, he has been in chronic pain and the threat of death has loomed over him continuously. She said that death, too, can bring Wayane to healing, peace; where he would feel no more pain. I accepted her wisdom and prayed differently. This time for an ease into transition of life for him. A week later, Wayane was released from the hospital and sent home where my daughter and I visited him often to check on him. Another week after that and I got the call that he was back in the hospital with heart valve failure due to the sickle cell.

Mom, my brother and I stood attentively while the cardiologist explained how the disease was killing my brother. How the little heart valve gadget was failing and how there was nothing else they could do. A few moments afterwards, we were called into his ICU room to say goodbye. He was finally healed after 40 years of pain. He looked so peaceful. I thanked God for my Auntie's wisdom as I accepted that my prayers for his peace transition was answered.

Today, I woke up holding my second child and thinking of how he would have smiled at her but then how he is smiling down on us all...happy birthday, Wayane, you are truly missed!

"Been admitted to hospital. Effaced at 50%. Braxton-Hicks are painful. I had a Dr's appt at 10am - seen at 10:50, admitted into St. David's at 12:30pm. The Braxtons are referred to as 'irritation' and can be measured by the monitor now. Nice room. Nurses cool. Was given an anti-anxiety med. About to take an Ambien for peaceful sleep. I'm actually quite tired and ready. Won't be home until after Vicki is born. God is Good. Amen. :-)"

from my journal recordings, during this season i am well aware of who I AM and what my PURPOSE is. i remind myself to stay focused and not let the things of this world distract me from those facts. in looking at the previous two years of what i was thinking, i know today, my purpose He had all planned out, included bringing forth life. whats really interesting is there were no other entries between the 2009 and 2010 dates. they were back to back entries almost to the date.

its good for me to look at my journals and note my mentality and accomplishments. i gain so much wisdom from recording my life cycles and revisiting them. i encourage you to do the same.

Eating Good - Oxtails

Blogger Points: Fresh oxtails stewed with white potatoes, cut collard greens & Jiffy blueberry ho-cake slices. 5-27-11

so i went to visit my girly-friend, Ashley. her roommate started cooking oxtails, rice, brocolli and cornbread. Ash and i had been in their shared living room area watching movies, snacking and just enjoying ourselves for the past 4-5 hours before she came into the kitchen. we let her join in with our talking. with my being almost 36 weeks pregnant at the time, i was welcome to meeting other young women with goals and a good future planned for themselves like me. Ash was graduating from UT that weekend and so was her roommate. there was so much to sit and talk about.

we sat around the living room talking, laughing. looking at our Facebook photos and just being girls. Ash's roommate continuted going back and forth between the living room and kitchen. of course, when we saw her pull out the oxtails, we got excited. we talked about how long its been since either of us have had oxtails. you know my pregnant self was super excited as the apartment started smelling tasty.

well, Ash's roommate announced that she would not be sharing her food with us after she finished cooking. she said something about not having enough for us then she sat down in the living with her plate and ate. she then said she was expecting guests over for dinner. they never showed up. in any case, Ash and i ate some salad and continued fellowshipping with her.

after eating with Ash, i texted my hubby to come pick me up, i told him about the oxtails. you can imagine the look he had on his face while i was recounting how my tummy was growling. i had him drive me to Fiesta immediately so i can purchase my own. i also picked up some frozen collard greens and fresh organic potatoes. the next morning, a friday, i put those oxtails on, cut up those potatoes and let the collard greens thaw. hubby had to DJ out of town for the weekend so Ash was coming over to keep me company.

that package of oxtails i purchased from Fiesta was exactly what Ash's roommate had purchased. my package yielded a full pot of meat and the potatoes made it on point! my hubby is from Georgia and was feeling those oxtails before he left for the weekend. nothing like a good homecooked meal.

Ash and i had a blast that entire weekend eating those oxtails. next time i cook them, i'll blog each step as this pot was good, good, good!

New Life

back on november 4, 2010...

me: (calls hubby) babes, i'm at HEB getting a pregnancy test. we missed our period last month.
him: we did?
me: well, i did. (giggle)
him: okay. so, yeah, see what's up.
me: i'll call you back when i get the results
him: okay.
me: love you
him: lubba dub
me: (giggle)

i purchase the HEB brand, single pack, pee on the stick. after comparing to the E.P.T. brand, its a matter of getting results. the HEB brand will do just fine. besides that, E.P.T. doesn't have a single pack, pee stick.

i get home, drink some water, take a shower, put some relaxing clothes on then pee on the stick. i place the stick face up on the side of the tub. the results should be evident in about 3 minutes, till then, i'll check my emails, update a few client's websites and set up those automated promo status updates i been meaning to do since last week.

after checking my emails, i checked the pee stick. it reads positive. well, i knew something was different. been craving that Golden Fried Chicken all week and Lord knows i don't eat fried fast food like that.

me: (calls hubby back)
him: so whats up?
me: its saying positive. we pregnant.
him: (giggles) ah, yeah?
me: (giggles) yep. (big cheesy grin)
him: i'll be home in a few hours.
me: okay, daddy. love you, babes.
him: hey, i love you, too.

babes get home, he saw the positive generic pee stick and insisted we go to HEB and get the name brand to make extra sure. its his first and my second in 25 years so i understood. we get the double pack E.P.T. brand. when we get back to the house i decide i'll take the test with my first morning urine for good measure.

the next morning...
me: okay, its pee pee time
him: (gets out bed, walks to bathroom with me)
me: (looks at him while i pee on the stick)

stick says positive about 2 minutes later...
me: its positive, you're a daddy (big smile)
him: you sure those things are working?
me: well, hell, you bought the double pack. you wanna pee on the second stick?
(we both bust out laughing at the idea alone of him trying to get his first morning pee on that little, thin ass stick)

i gave him a kiss while we tried to keep his aim straight. we were still laughing. i went into the kitchen to drink some more water. i'll use the second stick on my next pee pee break. we both went to our office desks and started working. about 30 minutes or so later, i bring the second stick back to him; "positive".

we took the rest of the day off to just lay up and thank God for whatever He has in store for our future. i put the sticks in an air tight container for safe keeping. the suggestion that he pee on the stick still has us cracking up!

The SCAR Project: Breast Cancer is NOT a Pink Ribbon

When I saw this post by my Auntie Paula on her Facebook wall, I was already in the know of understanding that the "pink ribbon" makes it cute to show your support. The reality of breast cancer survivors is the scars.

One of my nieces' mothers is a survivor of breast cancer and she is undergoing massive amounts of reconstructive surgeries on her breast. Her scars are not as neat as the women in this beautiful gallery are but with it being the 21st century, my hope is they will be.

My mother survived cervical cancer when I was 17. I remember vividly how weak she was after her hysterectomy. My pursuit to live a healthy lifestyle is a result of the fear I felt when she told me.

There is one photo in this gallery that made me tear up. As a woman, I wear both my breast proudly. They are a sign of my womanhood. It seems I felt this one woman's release in allowing herself to be photographed and seen in all her amazing beauty. She is indeed beautiful...the ugly stain of breast cancer couldn't cover that up.

The SCAR Project subjects range from ages 18 to 35 and represent the often overlooked group of young women living with breast cancer. (Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in young women ages 15-40). They journey from across America and the world to be photographed for The SCAR Project. Nearly 100 so far. The youngest 18.

Although Jay began shooting The SCAR Project primarily as an awareness raising campaign he was not prepared for something much more immediate . . . and beautiful: “For these young women, having their portrait taken seems to represent their personal victory over this terrifying disease. It helps them reclaim their femininity, their sexuality, identity and power after having been robbed of such an important part of it. Through these simple pictures, they seem to gain some acceptance of what has happened to them and the strength to move forward with pride.”

Inspire My Mind's Eye

Inspiration comes from so many mediums for me. I'm oh, so grateful for the internet & cable TV. I happened to stumble upon this work by Michael Ostermann by way of Abduzeedo Daily Inspiration #601 .

I often connect with my other designing, web dev Tweeps (Twitter Peeps) on a rabbit hop for mind exploding ideas. Every Monday I spend hours looking at tutorials, photos, websites and digital paintings waiting for the light bulb moment. Just like with music, I get just as inspired visually as I do audibly.

What I like about this specific art work? Every rounded area of her body is moving with the projection of a triangular aspect. Her eyes, shoulders, hips and knees. Even her ankles are all "moving". A woman's curves put into motion with 90 degree angles. Sexy.

Its busy for sure but the details within the triangles keeps your eye-gates active. The consistency of elements used to define the imagery explodes the simplicity I see with my designer's eye.

Grace for Today

Today's Scripture:

Today's Word:

God has grace in store for you every single day. Grace is His supernatural empowerment, His unmerited favor on your life. All throughout scripture, we see God giving daily grace, empowerment and provision to His people. For example, when the people of Israel were in the wilderness headed toward the Promised Land, God gave them manna each morning to eat. It would just appear on the ground. But, He specifically instructed them to gather up only enough for one day's supply. In fact, if they got more than that, it wouldn't last. It would spoil. They were learning to trust God's grace every single day.

In the same way, God doesn't give us grace for a year at a time or even a month at a time. No, every 24 hours God has a fresh, new supply of grace, favor, wisdom and forgiveness. How are you going to make it through the seasons of your life? One day at a time. Look for His grace today. Look for His provision today. Look for His hand of favor and blessing today because He promises to supply everything you need for today.

Prayer for Today:

Father God, thank You for Your grace and favor on my life today. I know that You have a fresh supply of everything that I need—physically, spiritually and emotionally—today. Help me to trust You more as I seek Your face. In Jesus' Name.

its the American Christmas morning - waking to blessings, love & blog dedication.

the 19th was my Isis' 3rd b-day, 22nd was my grandmother's 83rd, 23rd was my DJ Orion's day and today is my brother, Fredo's day! all these loving people have made a great difference in my life.

your birthday is like the most important day of every year, i like to count back to my possible conception day 'cause that seems to be a day of cheer, too if you ask me. go mommy & daddy! lol.

i saw everyone i listed above on their special day, letting them all know how important they are to me. family on any level is important. what a blank existence you'd have without family. in my hip hop life, my family branches reach far beyond bloodlines. as i look out my window to the lake and its stillness, i realize my family is like that. surface still with a "will drown yo ass" current running a few feet below it. most people see me out on solo but have no idea, one call connects me to any and all on every level imaginable - that current is strong and ALIVE!

this morning i awake listening to newly produced beats and amazing mixes by my DJs. yeah, i have more than one. all of them will make an artist start side-eyeing their own DJ. lol. i have their work to enjoy because they love me, i'm family to them. they know i love & care for them. matter of fact, one of my producers had to get surgery on his spine - a tumor removed. i went to visit him at home with his "ironman suit" (back brace) on, peeling a few dollars to help with whatever small craving he may want. we talked shopped as usual but it wasn't usual...things could have taken a drastic turn for him. my family tree would have been reshaped, today would have been a different type of day to wake to that's for sure. blessing God that with all that is, today is the day i woke up with my branches unchanged but roots dug deeper.

geesh, its a little chilly by this window. loving the view but i think i need some socks and a sweater on. lol. think i'm bout to make a cup of java, watch part 2 of Avatar online then stir my hubby up. he sleeps like a hibernating bear, growls and all - fun part is stirring him enough to get him to talk back...slurs of "love you, too" are the best. half sleep tellin full truths from his heart. my big bear.

yes, today is a lovely day to reflect on family...dang, its really chilly at my work desk. buuuuurrrr!

my goodness it is cold outside. hardly no sun out yesterday of 2 Shevat.

in keeping with everything i know to do seasonally, i've fought off lethargy as much as i can. about the only thing i've accomplished today, thus far, is emailing a publicist to see if she's interested in helping my company. lol. well, at least i got something done, right?

not wanting to disappoint myself too much, i've decided that the winner in me deserves to go to sleep tonight at 9pm turning off all forms of communication. that's including the mono commo (TV). i'm going to start my day today better. i'm going to wake up and act like yesterday didn't happen.

i'll look at my calendars/planners and will ignore the date itself, only focusing on the assignments not marked off.

man, i really do not like lethargic days. such a strong fight, well fought.

I rarely get any sleep. I eat healthy, drink lots of water and exercise a little. Nope, not gonna lie and say "Oh, I do 1000 crunches a day..." I think most of those broads are lying. It doesn't take all of that if you busy all the time, in fact if you are busy, where do you find the time to do 1k crunches? lol.

Anyway, since this is my career I'm always online, reaching past states and country lines to connect with industry leaders. Not major labels, they are not industry leaders - get that straight. Smart folk with smart moves working for them in any industry my company is built on are industry leaders.

Clever moves sparked this TX/TN collabo that I am very proud of. I've received a lot of love from this project single from DJs all over the world. I've received a lot of BS from other female rappers with self-proclaimed titles such as "Queen of the South" - to what I ask, "Who? Which one...? You mean Trina, right?" a Queen has subjects and a Kingdom. I'd prefer if they'd stop with that nonsense and just be themselves. Half of these "title holders" sound like Pre-K toddlers. Grown assed women trippin' with me to help their self-esteem. lol.

Girls, girls, keep ya day jobs.
